Sculptural and deliciously tactile, James Tailor’s unique canvas works are part of a series of over 100 paintings. A blend of polish and vulnerability, they become delightfully multi-dimensional 3D wall works with deeply coloured pigments, textures and surfaces.

His pieces frequently employ a mix of impasto, acrylic paint, resin, and sometimes cardboard. His resin mixes materialise as 'extreme impasto’ creating sculptural form across the canvas.  

Interested in accidents and unexpected moments in the making process, often using these as starting points for new works. Every work is unique and a result of James’ experimental processes that expand on our traditional and expected use of paint.

Draped, folded or pulled across frames and found structures, creating a tension between softness and rigidity. Their production is slow, physical and labour-intensive. A metaphor for survival and reinvention, particularly within his sculptural assemblages made in his wider practice. Removed from its original context and forced into a new form, the material echoes broader themes of experimentation, queerness, grief and resilience.

  • We accept returns within 14 days of delivery for undamaged items in their original packaging. As many of our prints are made to order, please contact us before returning any item.
