Sculptural and deliciously tactile, James Tailor’s unique canvas works consist of self-made acrylic paint skins. Built up through layers of acrylic paint, each skin is peeled away, folded, stretched and reshaped into sculptural forms. While rooted in painting through the use of paint, stretcher and canvas, these works push beyond the flat surface. The paint becomes a material in itself - flexible, physical and transformed through processes of change, pressure and reinvention.

Draped, folded or pulled across frames and found structures, creating a tension between softness and rigidity. Their production is slow, physical and labour-intensive. A metaphor for survival and reinvention, particularly within his sculptural assemblages made in his wider practice. Removed from its original context and forced into a new form, the material echoes broader themes of experimentation, queerness, grief and resilience.

  • We accept returns within 14 days of delivery for undamaged items in their original packaging. As many of our prints are made to order, please contact us before returning any item.

  • In the unlikely event your print arrives damaged, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the damage and we will arrange a replacement or refund.
